Red Guardian (Alexei Shostakov)

Alexei Shostakov is Russia’s only super soldier, once heralded as the Red Guardian, the Soviet Union’s answer to Captain America. Injected with a variant of the super-soldier serum, he became a symbol of Cold War propaganda. Posing as Yelena and Natasha's father in a deep-cover mission, he developed genuine affection for them. After years of imprisonment and irrelevance, Alexei reemerged in Black Widow (2021), proud of his past but desperate for renewed purpose. In Thunderbolts (2025), Alexei joins the team as their bruiser—a physically powerful enforcer with deep loyalty to his teammates. Despite his bluster and comedic bravado, he’s committed to redemption and protecting those he views as family. He serves as both muscle and emotional ballast for the team.

Alexei Shostakov is a bombastic, deeply nostalgic figure with an inflated ego masking deep insecurities. He constantly boasts about his achievements—real or imagined—and seeks validation, especially in comparison to Captain America. His loud, often ridiculous exterior hides a bruised soul who desperately wants to be seen as a hero and father figure. He is emotionally clumsy, often expressing love through awkward jokes or exaggerated storytelling, but his loyalty and protectiveness are genuine.
